Eckford from Wooden Hill

The Old School, Eckford is a quiet and convenient place to stay in some of the Scottish Borders’ most beautiful countryside.

We are artists with a love of gardens and orchards and, whether you are looking for somewhere to work on a project or as a base from which to explore the area, we look forward to welcoming you to this extraordinary place.

Situated just off the A698, midway between the towns of Kelso to the north, and Jedburgh to the south, we are an easy 6 mile drive from each and, for those without their own transport, there is a very good local bus service that connects with national bus and rails networks.  All of the Borders’ historic Abbeys and Houses and many sporting activities are within easy reach with Edinburgh and Newcastle just over an hour’s drive away.  Click here for directions.

Eckford School and the “Domini’s” (or teacher’s) house were built circa 1831 and have been lovingly converted into a single private home which includes quiet, fully-equipped and self-contained accommodation for visitors.

The Old School’s gardens and orchard look out onto the beautiful farm and woodlands of Easter and Wester Wooden and Wooden Hill.  It is an ever-changing landscape full of interest for nature lovers.  Visitors are invited to use the gardens during their stay and take advantage of the many peaceful walks outside the B&B’s own front door.

What people are saying

David Eustace, England:  “After a faultless day at the Kelso Races, I was rewarded with the generous hospitality of the Old School.  If only all B&Bs were like this.”

Jerry & Jacqui Kilbert, Elk Grove, California:  “You do have the best B&B breakfast in
the whole of Scotland.  Thank you for making us feel so at home.”

Peter & Gerrie Hunt, England:  “We shall be returning.  We would recommend your B&B to anyone staying in the Borders.”

Linda & Mike, Perth, Australia:  “What a great place!  Lise & Graeme are wonderful hosts.  The garden is productive (a little haven of peace at the beginning or end of the day) and the accommodation comfortable and spacious.  We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.”
